  • Young Voices - 2024

    Thu 25 Jan 2024

Last week, pupils from Years 5 and 6 represented the school by taking part in the incredible ‘Young Voices’ concert at the O2. Along with many other schools, they performed as part of the world's largest children's choir represented by 6000-8000 singers. The concert was fantastic and it was a wonderful experience for our pupils to perform on such an incredible stage. Thank you, of course, goes to our pupils from Years 5 and 6 for practising so hard over the last few months.

  • Peace Doves - St Albans Cathedral

    Thu 18 Jan 2024

Last term, the children in Years 3 - 6 took part in a local project to support the 'Peace Doves’ installation by the sculptor, Peter Walker.

Thousands of paper doves each carrying messages of peace from our community, are now on display in St Albans Cathedral, hanging under Britain's oldest Cathedral tower. Those made by the children at Newberries form part of this incredible installation.

We are very proud to have had the opportunity to be part of such an amazing project, carrying with it such an important message - the final piece looks stunning. We have received some wonderful feedback from parents and children who have been to see it already!

This week has been Anti Bullying Week, with the theme of ‘Let’s Make a Noise About Bullying’! Our work in school has been supported by workshops run by ‘Drama K!ds’ Cambs-Herts drama school. They were in school promoting the message of ‘Be an Upstander, Not a Bystander’. This week, as Black History Month comes to an end, displays are starting to spread throughout our school corridors showcasing the significant individuals that our pupils have been learning about.

We have particularly enjoyed Year 2’s Kara Walker inspired artwork, which reflects stories of kindness through silhouette scenes.

  • Coronation Celebrations

    Fri 12 May 2023

We have had a wonderful week recognising His Majesty King Charles III. We have made crowns, portraits of the King, coronation themed bunting and have been busy planting and creating our new courtyard space. A space, which pupils and staff can now use as a quiet space to sit and reflect or even read. Thank you to everyone who contributed plants. It’s colourful and bright and our pupils are very proud of themselves.

Throughout our celebrations, we all learned a song. The children sang it with such joy and enthusiasm, commenting on ‘How it is the happiest song ever!’ so much so that we made an audio recording! Soon, this will be posted to the ‘latest news’ section of our school website for you to hear!
