World Book Day - 2023
On Thursday, at Newberries, we celebrated World Book Day! It was lovely to see the children in their wonderful costumes, showcasing characters from such a diverse range of different stories! During the day, as well as sharing their characters and costumes, each class had the opportunity to create their favourite character using a variety of materials and a wooden spoon as a base; it was amazing to see the fantastic and creative designs that were created!
Throughout this week, each class has also been reading a book called 'The Barnabus Project'. It is about a kind creature called Barnabus who is a mix between a mouse and an elephant. He is thought to be a ‘failed experiment’, he is kept in a bell jar and he yearns for freedom. We learn through the story how Barnabus and his friends appreciate themselves for who they are and they all work together to escape. Every class focused their English learning around the story of Barnabus with a wide range of exciting activities; from creating their own mixed animals, to making comic strips to retell the story. We have all thoroughly enjoyed the week and eagerly await the next one!
