  • Red Nose Day

    Fri 17 Mar 2023

As always all of our pupils have shown great compassion and empathy towards children and families that have been supported through the charity of Red Nose Day. Each classroom today has spent a portion of their timetable focussing on Maths, English and PSHE activities to recognise the great amount of good that Red Nose Day achieves. Mrs Skeggs, and her team, in our school kitchen have also helped mark this special day by making Red Nose biscuits!

  • World Book Day - 2023

    Thu 02 Mar 2023

On Thursday, at Newberries, we celebrated World Book Day! It was lovely to see the children in their wonderful costumes, showcasing characters from such a diverse range of different stories! During the day, as well as sharing their characters and costumes, each class had the opportunity to create their favourite character using a variety of materials and a wooden spoon as a base; it was amazing to see the fantastic and creative designs that were created!

Throughout this week, each class has also been reading a book called 'The Barnabus Project'. It is about a kind creature called Barnabus who is a mix between a mouse and an elephant. He is thought to be a ‘failed experiment’, he is kept in a bell jar and he yearns for freedom. We learn through the story how Barnabus and his friends appreciate themselves for who they are and they all work together to escape. Every class focused their English learning around the story of Barnabus with a wide range of exciting activities; from creating their own mixed animals, to making comic strips to retell the story. We have all thoroughly enjoyed the week and eagerly await the next one!

  • Mini-Police Project

    Fri 24 Feb 2023

Today we marked the end of Year 5's Mini-Police Project, with a presentation attended by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Graham.

The Mini-Police Project involves the children working closely with Hertsmere Police, to raise awareness of some of the challenges they may face in society and how the Police are there to help them. This invaluable experience supports the children in developing their understanding of citizenship.

  • World Thinking Day

    Wed 22 Feb 2023

Wednesday 22nd February is World Thinking Day. Previously pupils who attend Rainbows, Brownies or Guides outside of school have been invited to wear their uniform to school that day to mark this event.

World Thinking Day has always been a time for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts to connect with and celebrate this global movement. It is also an opportunity to explore issues that are important to girls and young women, positively influencing our world. Thank you to all the pupils who came to school in their uniforms!

  • Christmas Jumper Day

    Fri 09 Dec 2022

Christmas Jumper Day is Save the Children's annual event which raises money for children in the UK and across the world. Every December, millions of people across the United Kingdom (and beyond!) put on a festive outfit at their workplace, school or with friends and make a donation to help give children the magical future they deserve. Since 2012, millions of people have put on their jazziest jumpers for one day in December, donated £2 to Save the Children, and helped make the world better for children. Today, the Newberries school community did just this! Click this link to see how participating in Christmas Jumper day is so important. https://www.savethechildren.org.uk/christmas-jumper-day/how-you-help

If you would like to donate £2 towards this amazing cause, you can do so by clicking on this link. https://www.savethechildren.org/us/ways-to-help/ways-to-give This year, the UK government has promised that every time £2 is given to Save the Children, the Government will give £2 too!

We are so proud of all of our pupils, who showed amazing compassion, empathy and understanding when learning about ‘Save The Children’ charity creating place mats for their Christmas dinner to reflect this charity

  • Reception Nativity

    Mon 05 Dec 2022

Reception Nativity was very special and heartwarming, just what we all needed to get ourselves into the Christmas spirit! Thank you to all staff who supported the children to do so well and thank you to all parents and guardians, who came into school to see the performance. We hope that you enjoyed it as much as we did!
